vital whey proteinServing Suggestions for Vital Whey:

If one has a true milk allergy, all dairy products need to be avoided. People with this condition should be aware of it. Intolerance to milk products and dairy proteins that are damaged from pasteurization and processing is far more common. Vital Whey® is not subject to any production methods that would damage the full range of proteins. Lactose content for this whey product is 1 g per 20 gram serving which is well below the level for intolerance.

Vital Whey® is made with Proserum®, the most potent native whey protein available. Proserum® supports the increase one’s glutathione level. Glutathione is our body’s master antioxidant, detoxifier and anti-aging component. Because of this it is advisable for anyone who is first consuming Vital Whey® to ramp up their serving size slowly. We recommend that you start out with ¼ of a scoop (5 grams) as an initial serving and increase over a period of days.

This is great! I know many people who will appreciate this. It's tough when you're seeking extreme performance to rely 100% on whole foods, and a protein shake can be useful...But I'd rather perform less than compromise a few of my grass-fed ethics. Thanks for being a great resource! My mom placed her first order with you all today.

Is all the sugar content from Stevia?

Does this Whey what amino acids does it contain? Does if have Folic acid, folate, or phosphorus?

Proserum® whey used in Vital Whey is pasteurized at the lowest legal temperature required by the FDA to retain the fragile immune-modulating protein components in their native forms.

Hello,

Your wording states "minimally processed" and "Vital Whey® is not subject to any production methods that would damage the full range of proteins." This wording is vague and confusing. What are the production methods? Can you please explain the processing? Is the milk from grass fed cows unpasturized or raw? This is a critical component to understaning the nutritional value of your product, and allows me to make an informed purchasing decision.

Thank you in advance for your response.

2 questions: 1) where do I find the ingredients
2) The calories don't add up -- 15 grams of protein = 60 calories + 1 gram carb = 4 calories, plus 1 gram fat = 8 calories...should equal 72, but has 80 listed.

Why do you have to put a sweetener in the powder. Can you make one without the sweetener?

Thanks.

You should answer the previous questions straightforwardly. You do not give any ingredient content. The fact that you only answer the questions as to where to buy it and a vague response to the raw milk question raises suspician. If you want to alleviate the concern that you are hiding something you should answer the questions. Despite the glowing reports you give about your product -- until you answer the very excellant questions -- I will not be buying anything from you. I strongly suggest that you do not delete this comment.

Justina- the ingredients have always been listed on each product page, but here they are:

Natural Cocoa-Ingredients: Proprietary native whey protein concentrate, natural cocoa, gum acacia, stevia

Natural Vanilla- Ingredients: Proprietary native whey protein concentrate, natural vanilla, gum acacia, stevia

This isn't a product that we make so we'll get more information for you from the manufacturer. (Carmen- we'll ask about the sweetener issue also!)

We never delete related comments, whether they're good or bad! We have recently had several comments trying to sell Nike Shox and handbags - those are the only comments that are removed.

Are the vitamins, etc. that are listed within the nutrition facts naturally occurring within the whey, or has the product been somewhat fortified? I'm already taking a pretty substantial multi vitamin, so I didn't want to overdue it on certain ingredients if they're not naturally occurring.

Also, is there a different serving recommendation for someone who wants to take the whey for weight loss and the extra protein benefit and isn't wanting to increase muscle mass or bulk-up?

Finally, can the whey be used as a complete meal replacement. ie, having a scoop or two of whey vs. cooking a few eggs in the morning?

Thank you for your help in answering my questions!

Here are answers from the manufacturer of Vital Whey:

The Proserum® whey protein used to make Vital Whey is pasteurized because the FDA requires that all milk protein powders undergo heat pasteurization in order to be sold in the US. By saying our Proserum native whey protein concentrate is minimally processed we are referring to the fact that our whey only undergoes a single heat pasteurization without any additional acid or chemical treatments. The temperature used during our pasteurization is low enough to avoid damaging the temperature sensitive protein components such as immunoglobulins, lactoferrin and serum albumin. The benefits of our proprietary processing method are clearly seen when comparing the amounts of these components with other leading whey proteins on the market. The graph above compares Proserum to the leading whey protein isolates available today:

Values for Fat, Carbohydrates, Protein and Calories must be rounded per FDA labeling regulations. The 80 calories per serving listed is accurate based on these rules.

To better accommodate the flavor preferences of our customers, we are currently working on a Vital Whey Natural product which will be free of any additional flavorings/ sweeteners. This product should be available within the next few months and will be accompanied by a news release so that customers know when it is ready for purchase.
The vital whey ingredient list breaks down as follows:
• Proserum® native whey protein concentrate
o The milk for our Proserum is derived from cows that are grass-fed year-round on natural pastures that are pesticide and chemical-free. It is hormone-treatment-free and GMO-free.
• Vanilla (natural) or Cocoa (natural)
o We use only the highest quality natural vanilla and cocoa bean extracts. No synthetic flavoring is used in the formulation of either flavor of Vital Whey. All of ingredients are added in powder form and have no adverse effects on the fragile protein components.
• Gum Acacia
o Gum Acacia is a naturally occurring plant fiber extract that is used to add the signature creamy texture to our Vital Whey.
• Stevia
o Stevia is an all-natural low glycemic index sweetener derived from the stevia leaf. By using a super sweetener like stevia, we are able to decrease the amount that is included in each jar and increase the already high proportion of Proserum native whey protein in every scoop.

There are no additional vitamins or minerals added during the manufacture of our products.

Regular serving size can vary greatly between individuals. If an individual is looking to use Vital Whey as part of a weight loss plan we recommend they consult a medical professional who can help tailor a dietary regimen for their specific health circumstance.

Vital Whey is a protein supplement and not intended to be used as a meal replacement. It does not contain the recommended amounts of vitamins, fat and minerals necessary to be a complete meal. Anyone looking to create a meal replacement is encouraged to use Vital Whey as one part of a smoothie or shake for a great source of biologically active protein.

Is this a concentrate or isolate product?
Posted @ Monday, May 02, 2011 4:47 PM by Carrie
To the person who seems to be concerned with the quality of vital whey you can just go to the manufacturer website and read their information.

Second for anybody reading this it is not possible to obtain any commercial dairy product that does not meet FDA reg's(farm direct excluded). So all whey sold in the US has to have been pasteurized one way or another. Raw cheese has leeway for 60 days of ferment but that's about it.

Besides that ask yourself this, if you purchase a whey product that states it's raw then why doesn't it require refrigeration? No matter who says what all whey has been pasteurized within FDA requirements. I know one company (not vital whey) selling a grass fed "raw" milk whey who refuses to state it's really not raw, instead playing word games. So if you know the law you know it can't be done. At least a low-temp pasteurized grass fed whey would still be much better than std high temp pasteurized grain.

And at least Vital way tells the truth about their product.

From the FDA:

CFR - Code of Federal Regulations Title 21

Sec. 184.1979 Whey.

(3) The whey must be derived from milk that has been pasteurized, or the whey and modified whey product must be subjected to pasteurization techniques or its equivalent before use in food.

This product ROCKS! I have tried many whey protein powders and most of them perform and taste horribly. I am currently using the Vital Whey Cocoa, and it tastes great, not too sweet. I mix it with rice or almond milk, and it gives me a great boost of protein to keep this busy mom going throughout the day! Well Wisdom has a fantastic website for anyone wanting to learn even more about their whey products. Their FAQ tab goes into great depth on research and information. Thanks for carrying this great product!

EG - The cattle are grazing in sunny Southern Australia. This is an ideal location for grass-fed animals, due to the temperate climate grass grows year round! Australia also prohibits the use of synthetic growth hormones (used in many conventional US dairies) and genetically modified products, so the grass is as clean and green as it can be! See the Vital Whey blog for more info: http://www.wellwisdom.com/news/6/Where-Do-We-Get-Our-Milk%3F-%252d-May-2nd%2C-2011.html

I ordered this product from another company -- I am sure ti si the same as the ingredients, including the proprietary Whey protein is the same one and the ingredients label posted on the website is identical to this one.

When I got it, the # of grams for serving size was upped form 20 mg to 30 mg <-- 30 mg is the standard serving size to measure protein powder.

Now, though everything incresed by1/2 on the ingredients label except one:

The carb.

Now instead of 2g carbs, it said 6g carbs, it claimed 2g Dietary fiber and 3g of sugar.

Well this is a bit misleading. It is clear that the original lable was referring to 2g of sugar carbs, not carbs in general. That is very high for protein powder. It also now showed other ingredients included in particular "bioflavanoid sweetner (chalcone)" in addition to the stevia.

The chalcone is a synthetic product much like Splenda is -- so that pretty much takes away all the "all nautral" aspects of this product.

Moreover, the original label is misleading in suggesting the entire thing was sweetneed by stevia.

Finally the product made me nauseous and some what sickish feeling stayed with me for the next 24 hours.

It was ordered from "Dr. Jermey Webster complete health dallas" website.

I would not get this product again. The carbs are way too high, the protein way too low and then there is this mystery bioflavonoid sweetner.

Just a follow up on this thread.

Justitia,

Thank you for asking! We have not altered the nutritional info on our vital whey at all, this information comes direct from the producer. I went to Dr. Jeremy's website, and it appears that they have different labels on their whey bottles, so I am not sure if it is actually the same product. We do not re-label our bottles, so you might want to get in touch with the company you bought it from as we are not sure if they have re-labeled or altered the product.

I know there are tons of different vital whey products out there, and our serving size and ingredients do not match what you received. We have been offering our vital whey for nearly a year now with no feedback on nausea as you reported.

If you have any other questions just let us know and we'll try to help as best we can!

Thank you for developing one without sweeteners. I love the health benefits, but having consumed protein powders for some time, I find this one (natural vanilla) way too sweet tasting.

Got my first vanilla order today, I like one scoop with 8oz of "Winder Farms" skim milk. I does foam up quite a bit, but after the foam settles it taste like a vanilla milk shake. Yummy:)

Does your product contain any free glutamic acid?
Posted @ Sunday, March 11, 2012 10:14 PM by Laura
Laura, Well Wisdom does not currently test for Glutamic Acid. They can confirm the vital whey does contain 450mg of Glutamic Acid per serving. However, they are unable to confirm what amount of that (if any) would be in the free form. We hope this information helps. Please let us know if we can answer any further questions.

Hi, I would like to know does Vital Whey contain casein.
Posted @ Friday, March 16, 2012 4:30 PM by Ante
Ante, All whey protein and colostrum products contain varying amounts of casein. Lab analysis of the native whey protein verifies that it contains less than 1% non-denatured casein. Please let us know if we can answer any additional questions!
Posted @ Monday, March 19, 2012 11:03 AM by US Wellness Meats
As a follow-up to my free glutamic acid question--I have since ordered the natural flavor and have been using it for a week. I am very sensitive to free glutamic acid, like MSG, and I have not had any problems with the whey. So I suspect it has very little if any.

Regarding FDA law that whey protein must be heated to some point so it is not really "cold processed", I have found what they saying is first really cold processed whey protein!

http://www.sgn80.com/one-world-whey

Can you please comment this.
Posted @ Tuesday, March 20, 2012 4:38 PM by Ante
Ante, While we don't know all the specifics on the One World Whey, we do know that the FDA requires that all powdered dairy products must undergo heat pasteurization in order to be sold. What makes our Vital Whey different is the Proserum native whey protein that is still biologically active and contains the protein components naturally occurring in raw milk. The Vital Whey proteins undergo a minimal pasteurization process using the lowest heat setting allowed. This ensures that the end product is still microbial safe and still contains the highest levels of the important protein components.

Are ur Vital Whey products gluten free? thanks alot
Posted @ Tuesday, April 03, 2012 9:15 AM by Claire
Hi, am interested in buying a good whey protein & would like to know a bit more about your product.

1) It's great that Vital whey is chemical free, but is it antibiotic free?

2) I've read that some brands of whey protein can contain heavy metals like arsenic etc. Do you test your product for this?

3) Also do you have pasture fed certification shown on your website?

Many thanks for your time,
Anna

Claire, All Vital Whey products are gluten free. Please let us know if we can answer any further questions.
Posted @ Wednesday, April 04, 2012 11:11 AM by US Wellness Meats
Anna, We are more than happy to answer your questions!

1) The Vital Whey is antibiotic free.

2) Since Well Wisdom is located in California, they are required to test for heavy metals. It contains <.5/ppm Arsenic. This result does meet the strict California quality controls and tested negative for heavy metals under these standards.

3) On the Well Wisdom website it states the following: The milk for this product is derived from cows that are 100% grass-fed and graze year-round on natural pastures. It is GMO-free, hormone-treatment-free, pesticide and chemical-free and undergoes minimal processing.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Hi, can you tell me please do you scan protein products to radioactive substances, specially after Japan nuclear disaster and proximity with Australia.

Thank you.
Posted @ Thursday, April 12, 2012 9:59 PM by Ante
I see no mention of "hydrolyzed", so I take it that this whey protein is not hydrolyzed, which I understand is a good thing. I enjoyed the taste of the cocoa flavor, so now trying the plain. Thanks for adding the plain.
Posted @ Saturday, April 21, 2012 8:19 AM by Dean
Hi, your product sounds great & I've really enjoyed trying your vanilla & natural flavors.

Thanks for answering about the arsenic test - presumably all the heavy metals you test for eg lead, mercury, etc all fall within the guidelines?

Also, out of curiosity, why are heavy metals present at all in any whey protein - is it from the grass that the cows eat?

Thanks, Anna
